Unmanned deep sea research vehicle with cable to dive into the deepest part of the globe.
"KAIKO" is an unmanned Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) with umbilical cable having the world deepest diving capacity, and its main purposes are research and observation of deep sea and also preliminary investigation of manned under water vehicle. It is consisted of a vehicle, a launcher which launches the vehicle, cables, cable handling systems and launch/recovery system etc.

- Easy operation and high performance with enhanced function manipulator (7 degree of freedom).
- Wide survey of the sea bottom topography and geology by side sonar and sub-bottom profiler of the launcher
(in the towed motion). - Easy maneuverability by the adoption of various automated control.
- 1,200Mbps class high speed data transmission through fiberoptic electromechanical cable.
- Automated navigation and watching facility enabling long time operation.
Delivery Records
- On March 24, 1995 it succeeded in landing onto the deepest part of the Challenger Abyss
in the Mariana Deep (11,911m) - From April 1995 it is operated by Japan Maritime Science Technology Center and recorded 224
under water navigation in the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, etc.(as of November 1, 2001)
